Action Day
Ever since I turned 14 I started doing volunteer work and community service. I have done things from finger printing to selling raffle tickets to patrolling music in the park. On Tuesday October 11 I went on  boat with a whole bunch of 5th graders to explore the bay and  marine life. Somethings that I learned in this experience is that once the kids get comfortable they feel safe asking you questions that might seem silly to some people but not to them. I  also learned how to be  more open minded with the kids. I feel like this event helped build a connection to the community because we got up and we helped, and put our self in a situation that evolved others not just our self. I also feel like us being there helped the kids from the elementary school to believe that they can do anything if they really want too. The reason I feel like that is because now they have seen that Hispanics, African Americans, and other minorities are smart enough to go to college and get a great education. My connection deepened with this experience because I got to spend time with kids and I got to work with things I didn't know much about, and I was able to show them that it was ok to not know about everything  but that to change that you ask for help.
